When Hurricane Ida hit on September 1, 2021, Pumpkin Patch Brook rose into the Colonia section and flooded the Henry Inman Branch Library on Inman Avenue. The township reported water damage to at least four feet of wallboard around the entire building and lost more than 3,000 books. Colonia's low-lying streets were hit hard as well. Most Woodbridge water damage is less dramatic, but it follows the same rule: the faster wet walls and floors are dried, the less has to be torn out.
Woodbridge sections we serve
Colonia, Iselin, Avenel, Fords, Hopelawn, Keasbey, Port Reading, Sewaren, Menlo Park Terrace and Woodbridge proper. Also nearby Edison, Perth Amboy, Old Bridge and Sayreville.
What causes water damage in Woodbridge homes
- Brook and stream flooding. Low areas near brooks and streams can flood fast in a downpour, as Colonia saw during Ida.
- Basement seepage. Older Cape Cods and colonials in Iselin, Fords and Avenel often have basements that take water through block walls and the joint where the wall meets the floor.
- Pipe and fixture leaks. Aging supply lines, toilet tanks, dishwashers and ice-maker lines are common sources, especially in homes from the postwar years.
- Sump pump failures. A pump that quits during a storm can let a basement fill in hours. Read our sump pump failure guide.
- Frozen pipes. Pipes along outside walls can burst during a cold snap. See frozen pipes and ice dams.
- Sewer backups. Water coming up a floor drain may be sewage. See sewage cleanup in Woodbridge.
First steps
- Turn off the water at the main valve if a pipe or appliance is leaking.
- Keep away from outlets and cords in wet areas.
- Lift rugs, boxes and furniture off wet floors if it's safe.
- Take photos and video of everything before cleanup.
- Call 732-539-2942 .
Our water damage process
- Find the water. Moisture meters and thermal cameras show how far it spread inside walls and under floors.
- Pull it out. We extract standing water from floors, carpet and pad.
- Open what has to be opened. Drywall or insulation that can't be dried in place is removed.
- Dry it properly. Dehumidifiers and air movers run, and we record readings daily. Our drying log guide explains them.
- Put it back together. Our reconstruction team rebuilds walls, floors and finishes.
Insurance
A burst pipe or appliance leak is often handled under a homeowners policy, while water from a flooding brook usually falls under a separate flood policy. We send the invoice to your insurance carrier on your behalf, but the invoice is still the homeowner's responsibility. That includes your deductible and anything your carrier doesn't pay.
In New Jersey, homeowners usually have the right to choose their own restoration contractor. We specialize in working with both homeowners and insurance companies to make sure the work is properly documented and covered, so your home gets back to its pre-loss condition. Read our water damage claim tips.

Woodbridge water damage FAQs
Do you come to Colonia, Iselin and Port Reading? Yes. We serve all ten sections of Woodbridge Township and are usually there within about an hour.
My basement took water from the brook. Is that different from a pipe leak? Yes. Floodwater from outside is treated as contaminated, so porous materials it touched usually come out and the area is disinfected. It's also usually a flood-policy claim rather than a homeowners claim.
Can wet drywall be saved? Sometimes, if it's dried quickly and the water was clean. Drywall soaked by floodwater or sewage is cut out and replaced.
How long will drying take? Most rooms take about three to five days. We take readings every day and tell you when it's done.
Do I have to move out? Usually not. We contain the work area so you can stay in the rest of the house.
Can you help with the claim? We document the loss with photos, readings and an itemized scope. We send the invoice to your insurance carrier on your behalf, but the invoice is still the homeowner's responsibility. That includes your deductible and anything your carrier doesn't pay.
