Open 24/7 and usually on site within about an hour in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties.
Carteret packs 25,326 residents (2020 census, the borough's highest count ever) into about five square miles in the northeast corner of Middlesex County. Water surrounds it on two sides: the Rahway River forms the northern border and the Arthur Kill, with Staten Island across the channel, forms the eastern one. Woodbridge Township wraps around everything else. That geography is why so many of the calls we get from Carteret start with water. MaxClean Restoration covers the whole borough 24/7.
Carteret sections we cover
Chrome and West Chrome in the southeast, West Carteret on the far side of the New Jersey Turnpike, East Rahway near the river, plus Canda, Lamar, Silvan Beach and South Carteret. We work in single-family homes, two-family houses, apartment buildings and the warehouses around Turnpike Interchange 12. Nearby, we also serve Woodbridge, Perth Amboy, Edison and South Plainfield.
Why Carteret homes take on water
Storm surge off the Arthur Kill. Sandy pushed a near-record surge into the borough in 2012. The borough's own assessment counted about 200 seriously damaged homes and put up to 10 feet of water into Waterfront Park and the Public Works building. Surge water is salty and dirty, so wet drywall, insulation and carpet usually have to come out before drying starts.
Low ground in the middle of town. The Noe Street area covers roughly 685 acres of low ground at the center of Carteret. High tide there used to back up the old storm lines, and the borough rebuilt that drainage after Sandy. Bergen Street, which drains to the Arthur Kill, still floods in heavy rain and is getting a new bio-retention basin. When street drains can't empty, water finds basement windows, floor drains and garage doors.
Shared walls. In a two-family house or an apartment building, one burst pipe or overflowing tub can soak the unit below. We map moisture on both sides of the wall and the ceiling, so each owner or tenant gets an accurate picture.
Kitchen fires and puff-backs. Soot from a small stovetop fire or an oil burner puff-back travels through the whole house. Fire is usually covered under most homeowner policies, and cleaning soot early keeps it from etching into paint and countertops.

How a Carteret job runs
Our technicians start by stopping the source or confirming it has stopped. Next comes a walk-through with moisture meters and a thermal camera. If it's flood or sewer water, we separate what has to be thrown out from what can be cleaned, and we photograph everything before it leaves the house. Drying equipment goes in the same day. We check it daily and keep a written log until every reading is back to normal. Our reconstruction team then puts the rooms back together, so you deal with one company from the first call to the final walk-through. See finished work on our before-and-after page.
Insurance
We send the invoice to your insurance carrier on your behalf, but the invoice is still the homeowner's responsibility. That includes your deductible and anything your carrier doesn't pay.
In New Jersey, homeowners usually have the right to choose their own restoration contractor. We specialize in working with both homeowners and insurance companies to make sure the work is properly documented and covered, so your home gets back to its pre-loss condition. Surge and street flooding fall under flood insurance, which is a separate policy from homeowners coverage, so check both. More on our insurance claims page.

Carteret restoration FAQs
Water came up through our basement floor drain during a storm. Is that sewage? Treat it as contaminated. In a heavy storm, the water coming up a floor drain can mix stormwater and sewage. We remove it, clean and disinfect every surface it touched and dry the space, then document the job for your claim.
I own a two-family house and the leak started upstairs. Can you handle both units? Yes. We dry and document both units, keep each occupant updated and give you one set of photos and moisture readings for the claim.
Do you work on commercial buildings near the Turnpike? Yes. We handle water, fire and mold losses in warehouses, offices and retail spaces. We can stage the work around shifts and deliveries to keep downtime low.
How fast can you reach Carteret? We answer 24/7 and are usually on site within about an hour. From our Freehold office it's a straight run up the Turnpike or Route 9.
