Nobody plans for this call. Whether it follows an accident, a death at home or a crime, the family or owner is usually left with a room they can't face and questions they've never had to ask. MaxClean Restoration is based on Bannard Street in Freehold, the Monmouth County seat, so most of the county's 53 towns are a short drive for us. We take the cleanup off your hands so you can focus on the people involved.
What we clean up
Trauma and crime scenes
After an accident, a medical emergency or a crime, we come in only once law enforcement has released the scene. We remove blood, bodily fluids, fingerprint dust and other hazardous material, and we work with police and the property owner so nothing is disturbed before it should be. The goal is simple: return the space to a safe, clean condition.
Unattended death
When someone passes away at home and isn't found right away, the cleanup goes well beyond ordinary cleaning. Affected flooring, furnishings and other materials often have to be removed, and the area needs thorough disinfection and odor removal before it's safe to use again. We handle this with care and without rushing the family.
Blood and bodily fluids
Blood and other bodily fluids can carry disease, and they soak into carpet, subfloors and gaps in hard flooring. Wiping the surface isn't enough. Our technicians wear protective equipment, remove what can't be safely cleaned, disinfect the rest and dispose of the waste following OSHA rules.
Sewage as a biohazard
Raw sewage is a biohazard too. A sewer, main-line or septic backup brings bacteria into a basement or bathroom, and the porous materials it reaches usually come out. We handle it with the same protective approach we use for trauma work. See our sewage cleanup page for how that job runs.
Discretion
We don't discuss your job with neighbors, and we keep every detail private. If you'd rather we call before we pull up, or talk only with one family member, just tell us. We answer questions plainly and never pressure anyone into decisions while they're grieving.

Before we get there
- If anyone is hurt or a crime may have happened, call 911 first.
- Stay out of the affected room and keep children and pets away.
- Treat any blood or fluid as contaminated. Don't touch it, and don't try to clean it.
- Leave belongings in place. We'll sort and protect what can be kept.
How the work goes
- A phone call first. We ask a few gentle questions so we bring the right equipment, and we confirm the authorities have released the property.
- Walk-through. A technician looks at the area with you, or without you if you'd rather not go in, and explains the plan.
- Containment and removal. We isolate the area, then remove contaminated materials that can't be saved.
- Cleaning and disinfection. Remaining surfaces are cleaned and disinfected, and we deodorize so the smell doesn't linger.
- Disposal. Biohazard waste is packaged and disposed of according to regulations.
- Final check. We walk the space again and tell you what was removed and what may need to be rebuilt by our reconstruction team.
Cost and insurance
Is biohazard cleanup covered? Sometimes. It depends on the policy and the circumstances, and we can provide documentation for your insurer. We send the invoice to your insurance carrier on your behalf, but the invoice is still the homeowner's responsibility. That includes your deductible and anything your carrier doesn't pay.
If the cleanup follows a crime in which someone was injured or killed, the New Jersey Victims of Crime Compensation Office may reimburse some cleanup costs as part of an eligible victim claim. The family files that claim directly with the state.
